Rare white lions on public view

The first white lion cubs to be born at a UK safari park are going on public view in the West Midlands.

The cubs, three females and one male called Kiara, Lara, Toto and Casper, were born in August last year.

They were bred at the West Midland Safari Park near Bewdley, Worcs, to mother Maryn who was brought to the park in 2004 with three others.

White lions are a rare species found in an area of South Africa. There are thought to be 130 left in the world.

What magnificent animals. I didn't know there were white lions. Thanks for posting these.

The San Francisco zoo has a white tiger who is the star of the whole cat house.

This drives me crazy. These animals have obviously been bred by man with a less than useless trait. Lions are the color they are for a very obvious reason. A white lion would have a very difficult time sneaking up on anything in its native habitat.

Then it's a good thing they live in a zoo.

For anonymous who said "it drives me crazy etc etc" Read the original post. It says "White lions are a rare species found in an area of South Africa" therefore NOT bred by man.
Albino and other forms of amelanistc animals occur naturally in the wild. Man wasn't around with genetic engineering when the first albino mammoth was born was he?

White Lions are perfectly capable of hunting in the wild as has been proven by the introduction of Marah and her 3 cubs into a sub-habitat of 300 hectares in Timbavati in South Africa. Their hunting average is currently one wildebeest every 3 days so hardly a problem being white really.

White lions are one of the most astonishing and beautiful species in the animals' world. they really need to be preserved just as many more species that are nearly extinct today.

actually 'anonomous driven crazy' white lions originate in the wild of Timbavati, south africa , they have a great and spiritual meaning for the indigenous people. and in fact, if you do your research (i suggest you go to www.whitelions.org,you will see that research has proven that infact they are in some ways more advanced in their hunting abilities than their tawny cousins. they have been seen to role around in the dust to improve their camoflague before a hunt and actually generally have more success than the tawny lions at hunting.
however it is sad but true that they are now being bred by men in south africa purely for rich europeans and americans to shoot at close range in what we call 'canned hunts'. it is sick and a very sad state of affairs for humanity to find oursleves in.
so i suggest if you want to leave negative comments, that firstly you do your homework , and secondly leave it on canned hunt websites!!
